As we approach this New Year, what is God’s call for us in 2021? How shall we respond to the chaos of 2020? Perhaps like the Magi, whose Epiphany we celebrate on January 6th, we’re also seeking a guiding star.
This website is dedicated to finding our true homes through prayer and poetry. In other words, we seek good words here: Christ the Word, the words of Scripture, as well as words that can act as God’s guide in our lives. A good word can also be a gift, just as God gave the gift of the star to the Magi.
In response to the gifts that God has given me, I want to offer you, beloved reader, the gift of a star word. My prayer is this word may act as some sort of guiding star for you this year (or perhaps like some presents, you may feel led to re-gift it? :). Either way, I trust that you’ll know what to do with this gift, and that God continues to move through the practice of incarnating new words in our new year.
If you sign up for my free quarterly newsletter by January 11, 2021 (which, as a thoughtful prayer and poetry resource, is itself a gift), and then send me your postal address through my contact form, I’ll send you the gift of a postcard with a personalized star word. Whether it’s this particular gift, or another word you receive this year, I invite you to display it in a prominent place such as a bathroom mirror, bulletin board, or on the fridge. Later in 2021, I’ll host a workshop where we’ll virtually gather to write poems in response to our star words. And at the end of 2021, there will be an opportunity for this community to share how God has guided us through this gift.
For now, however, let’s start the journey. Please sign up for my newsletter, and then send me your postal address (a simple two-step process) by January 11th. If you’d rather not have a star word postcard, then you are certainly welcome just to sign up for the newsletter. I look forward to getting to know you either way as we trek together to our own Bethlehems!
What a lovely idea Melanie! Just signed up for your newsletter.

Thank you, Jody :)! I’m glad we can journey together, and learn from each other, through poetry.
