Conducting January 6th [poem]

I wrote the poem “Conducting January 6th” to explore the layered meanings of this Epiphany feast day, which is now loaded in the contemporary US mindset.

Hi, my name is Melanie Weldon-Soiset, and I've held many roles over the years: teacher, student, poet, pastor, immigrant, and #ChurchToo survivor. The way I best describe myself, however, is "God's Poem." One day that'll be my epitaph. In the meantime, I love to bike on local Washington, DC greenways, or enjoy an evening fire.
